Club Galaxy, often simply known as “Galaxy,” is one of Cape Town’s most iconic and longest-running nightclubs.

Established in the 1978, it is a cultural beacon, offering a rare space for socializing, dancing, and enjoying live music.  The Galaxy is 46 years old.

 Located in the suburb of Rylands, Galaxy’s reputation as a premier nightlife destination has endured for decades, making it a cherished part of Cape Town’s entertainment history.

 Now in December the club presents an exciting series of shows with Pfore Online

The Band

Ian Smith – Jazz Trumpeter
Ian Smith is  a renowned  jazz trumpeter, flugelhorn player, bandleader, and music educator,
Smith studied at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town, where he honed his trumpet skills and deepened his understanding of jazz theory and performance.

Ian was part of the second line up on Concert Boulevard back in the day.

Ian founded Virtual Jazz Reality (VJR) in the 1990s, a jazz-funk fusion band that is a staple of Cape Town’s live music scene. VJR is highly regarded for its eclectic mix of jazz, funk, and R&B, featuring some of the finest musicians.

Andrew Ford – Jazz Keyboardist and Composer

Highly respected South African jazz keyboardist, composer, and arranger, Ford’s ability to seamlessly blend complex jazz harmonies with African rhythms has made him a standout performer in both live and studio settings.

He honed his skills at the University of Cape Town’s College of Music, where he studied jazz performance and composition. His versatility on the keys allowed him to adapt to different musical styles, from jazz and R&B to pop and gospel. Over the years, Andrew Ford has collaborated with numerous acclaimed South African artists, including Jonathan Butler, Hugh Masekela, Gloria Bosman, Judith Sephuma, and Jimmy Dludlu. His contributions to these collaborations often include keyboard performances, arrangements, and music direction.

Sammy Webber – Bass Guitarist

Known for his exceptional bass playing, versatility, and groove, Webber has been a significant figure in the Cape Town music scene for over three decades .Sammy was part of the original Concert Boulevard

  His deep understanding of jazz, funk, gospel, and fusion styles has made him a sought-after session musician, bandleader, and live performer.

  Webber’s work spans a variety of genres, and his contributions to South African music have earned him a reputation as one of the country’s finest bass guitarists.


Webber began playing the bass guitar in his early teens, inspired by legendary bassists like Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, and Stanley Clarke. He is largely self-taught, developing his technique by playing along with records and performing in church bands.

Webber has collaborated with several legendary South African musicians, including Jonathan Butler, Robbie Jansen, Jimmy Dludlu, Allou April, and Judith Sephuma.

 His groove and rhythmic precision is unsurpassed .

 His playing often features tight, syncopated bass lines that lock in perfectly with the drummer, providing a solid foundation for the band.

 Jason Ward –  Drummer

His talent spans various genres, including jazz, funk, gospel, and rock, making him a sought-after session musician, band member, and educator.

He is inspired by legendary drummers like Tony Williams, Steve Gadd, and Dave Weckl, as well as South African greats like Makhaya Ntshoko and Vusi Khumalo. Ward began drumming in church during his childhood, where he honed his skills in gospel music. His early exposure to live performance in church bands provided a strong foundation for his rhythmic sense and improvisational abilities.

Ward has shared the stage and recording studio with a wide array of prominent South African musicians, including Judith Sephuma, Jimmy Dludlu, Jonathan Butler, Gloria Bosman, and the late  Robbie Jansen.

 His work with these artists showcases his adaptability and deep musical understanding. Known for his precision and groove, Ward’s drumming is both technically impressive and deeply musical.

 His ability to maintain a tight, consistent rhythm while adding creative fills and accents has made him a favourite among fellow musicians and audiences alike.

 Carmen Xclusive – Singer & Performer

 Known for her powerful voice, stage presence, and versatility across various music genres, including R&B, pop, soul, and jazz. scene, captivating audiences with her energetic live performances and soulful interpretations of both original songs and classic covers.

Inspired by the likes of Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, and South African icons such as Brenda Fassie and Miriam Makeba. Her influences shapes her dynamic vocal style, which blends elements of pop, soul, and jazz. Carmen has performed covers of iconic tracks by artists such as Whitney Houston, Adele, and Alicia Keys. Her renditions often bring a fresh, soulful twist to well-loved hits.

DJ Keith (Keith Davids) – DJ and Producer

A renowned South African DJ, producer, and performer, recognized for his fusion of deep house, afrobeat, and soulful rhythms.

His musical journey began in his teenage years, DJing at local parties and events, eventually gaining recognition for his exceptional mixing skills.

He has gained both local and international acclaim for his dynamic performances and innovative approach to electronic music
