We chatted to Kim Kalllie ahead of the show.
What is your purpose?
To keep making a difference to my family, where I can in my life and to those around me….
What does music mean to you?
I don’t believe there is anything I find more honest and grounding then the sound an orchestra makes when playing together and I’m in the middle of that sound – singing.
My music is about…
At this stage my life, songs and music that I love tell stories about situations I resonate with, feelings I can explore and emotions I can feel honestly and can portray to my audience.

What is your motto?
Keep making memories
Fame is about
The moment you’re in, its fleeting and always has to be earned. It’s not about you, it’s what others think of you.

Retirement will happen when
I fall off the planet
I don’t do
False nails.

Where do you go for inspiration to create?
Inspiration can arrive in the most arbitrary places, a dream, a raindrop, something someone says, a color combination or a sound that resonates. Then if you believe in it enough and are inspired enough, it’s up to you to make it happen.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of your work?
Meeting wonderful, interesting people who have completely different mindsets to me and we find common ground in whatever we are doing. It makes me very happy.
Any funny moments on stage?
We were doing a show once, and my co-star forgot his lines, just before my lines and he filled in with the biggest load of rubbish, he had done this for ages. BUT on this particular night I found it hilarious for some strange reason and ‘corpsed so badly on stage and so did my co-stars and the audience then go too. It got me into huge trouble with the management.
My heroes are
My family as they are there all the time and I’m so proud of them, but in world terms, musically…Streisand.
My style icon is…
For all round style I’ve always loved Ralph Lauren
Which living person do you admire most and why?
Of the people I know and who are in the industry, I would say my mum, Judy Page. I’ve watched her journey and seen the grit and determination it takes to get to her age with dignity and integrity.
She still has an ability to stay relevant and find joy in the qualities of young people. She finds joy in a laugh and still acknowledges pain and suffering. Great qualities.
What is your most treasured possession?
My most treasured physical possession is my home and the sense of peace and tranquility it brings me.
It’s your round, what are you drinking?
I’m a nondrinker but if pushed and I acquiesce, l’ll have tequila!!! No playing around….
Dream gig to do?
I always aspired to sing in a Rock Band and then I did, now I aspire to do that again with wonderful musicians and friends. I always loved to sing and act as part of a huge cast with an orchestra and then I did. Maybe, given the chance I’ll do it again. I’ve done most of the incredible things I’ve been offered from huge TV shows, to stand alone cabaret in the most wonderful and not so wonderful places, I shall continue to just keep making music and singing, its who I am.
What makes you stand out?
Getting most jobs done to the best of my ability. There a loads that never make the cut too!!!
Any nicknames?
My husband has called me Pye/Piedie for about 37 years. It’s such a lovely term of endearment and I feel fuzzy to this day when he calls me by that nickname.
If you were not a musician, what would you do?
Growing up in a musical household with a single parent essentially, there really was only one path shown to me. The music and theatre world. I’ve loved my path…But later in life I’ve found many other Channels in which to develop my sense of creativity. Architecture, home building and renovation, interior decor and design, fashion and sewing, landscaping to name a few that come to mind. I would also have studied medicine had we lacked the finances to send me off to university. instead, my mum’s agent said I should hit the road and go and sing…and so I did.
Pick five words to describe yourself?
Strong willed, Sensitive. Creative, Relatively intelligent.
Five must have songs on your Spotify playlist please?
I would rather put 5 artists or shows into that category as 5 songs is very limiting…Herbie Hancock, Sting, Sondheim, one album that I’ve never tired of enjoying is ‘The Mozart Sessions’ with Chick Corea and of course Barbra Streisand – Broadway album, but you’ve put me in a corner, there’s so much more.
I love Teddy Swims – that voice is amazing. There is so much good music, so many genres and talent around, if you look. The hard part is choosing.
Greatest movie ever made?
The Sting
What book are you reading?
I’ve just finished ‘The Other Side of History’, a mammoth read about the ordinary people who made up our history as a civilization,
My next book will be ’My name is Barbra’ of course about one of my legends Barbra Streisand.
What song changed your life?
At the age of 8 I recorded a song called ‘Montreal’ with my Mother, Judy Page. The song went into the Top 10 of the Springbok Hit Parade and set me on my musical journey.
Who do you love?
I love my family, that even includes my husband after all these years, very much and I love my doggies too.
What is your favorite word?
No!!!
Top of your bucket list?
To go to the Galapagos islands, see the blossoms in Japan, watch ‘Sting’ with a huge orchestra, enjoy my children and grandchildren endlessly and most of all have them want to be in my company and make me a part of their lives.
Your greatest achievement?
My children, and getting this far
What do you complain about most often?
Traffic and politics.
What is your biggest fear?
War and getting leprosy…unusual I know
Happiness is…
My family over for a movie with a home cooked meal and constant exchanges of relevant family info and chit chat.
On stage I tend to…
Close my eyes when I sing and stand knock kneed when I’m really concentrating.
The best lessons you have learned?
There is still so much more to learn!!
Learn the words!!!
What has been your favorite journey so far?
Travelling the world extensively and learning about different cultures and cuisines.
Do you do charity work, and if so-what do you so?
Helping young people realize their ambition within my academy.
Wishes and dreams?
To travel to the Galapagos island.
