Originally from Cape Town and now based in London, Mike Horne is a name that resonates throughout the South African and international music industries.
Known as one of South Africa’s most recorded and respected session drummers, Horne built a stellar reputation long before relocating to the UK—playing for a who’s who of local legends including Freshlyground, The Parlotones, Judith Sephuma, Zahara, Arno Carstens, MiCasa, Kurt Darren, and Toya Delazy.

A graduate of the University of Cape Town with a BMus in Jazz Performance, Horne quickly rose through the ranks, performing with elite university ensembles such as the UCT Jazz Big Band and Latin Tentet.
He was also a founding member of the South African National Youth Jazz Band, representing the country in 2001 and 2002.
Mike’s career spans genres and continents. He has performed and recorded with international icons including OMAR, ODYSSEY, Josh Smith, Robin Banerjee (Amy Winehouse), Lisa Mann, and members of Jools Holland’s band. He’s graced stages alongside acts like Collective Soul, Counting Crows, Foreigner, Dianne Schuur, and even Metallica.
Now thriving in the UK, Mike continues to evolve, working with top-tier jazz, soul, fusion, and rock artists across Europe, the US, and beyond.
