Steve Louw Discusses Critically Acclaimed New Album on Smile FM

Cape Town music fans were treated to a special conversation last night when legendary South African singer-songwriter and guitarist Steve Louw joined broadcaster Benito Vergotine on Smile 90.4FM to discuss his acclaimed new album, Traces of the Flood.

The interview explored the inspiration behind the album, the songwriting process, and Louw’s remarkable journey through more than four decades of South African rock music. 

Produced by renowned international producer Kevin Shirley, Traces of the Flood was recorded in Nashville and has been receiving glowing reviews from music critics in South Africa, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States.

 Critics have praised the album’s songwriting, musicianship, production quality, and its blend of rock, Americana, country-rock, and blues influences.

During the interview, Louw reflected on the stories and landscapes that inspired the album, particularly the title track’s journey through the vast Karoo, themes of redemption, and the enduring power of storytelling through music.

Released on 15 May 2026, Traces of the Flood marks another milestone in a distinguished career that has seen Louw become one of South Africa’s most respected rock artists and a member of the South African Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 

The album has already been described by reviewers as some of his strongest work to date.
