Acclaimed “River” and “Coming Home” hitmaker announces two exclusive shows in Johannesburg and Cape Town

JOHANNESBURG & CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA – September 2026: One of contemporary R&B’s most distinctive voices is finally heading to South Africa.

Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and performer Leon Bridges will bring his acclaimed live show to the country for two exclusive performances this November, presented by BreakOut Events.

The Texas-born star will perform at Marks Park, Emmarentia, Johannesburg, on Saturday, 28 November 2026, before heading to one of Cape Town’s most celebrated outdoor music settings, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, on Monday, 30 November 2026.

Tickets go on sale at 9AM on Wednesday, 24 September 2026 through Webtickets.

For South African fans who have followed Bridges from the breakthrough success of Coming Home and songs such as “River,” “Coming Home,” “Smooth Sailin’,” “Better Man” and “Beyond,” the announcement brings the opportunity to experience an artist whose music has helped connect classic soul and R&B traditions with a contemporary global audience.

And Bridges himself has made it clear that South Africa has been on his wish list.

“I’ve wanted to play South Africa for a long time, and I’m really excited to finally make it there, especially with this album, for these two special shows. I can’t wait to share the music with everyone,” says Bridges.

A NEW CHAPTER: HAPPINESS ANYTIME

The South African dates arrive as Bridges enters an exciting new phase of his career with his fifth studio album, Happiness Anytime, due for release on 25 September 2026 via Columbia Records.

Produced by J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto of British trio Jungle, the 12-track album sees Bridges reconnecting with some of the warmth that made Coming Home such a landmark debut while pushing his music into fresh territory.

The album draws together R&B, soul, groove and a broad range of global influences, with Bridges once again placing his unmistakable voice and songwriting at the centre.

Four songs from the project — “Light The Way,” “Tears of Joy,” “Illusion” and “Your Love Is Electric” — have already been released.

For Bridges, however, the album is about more than simply making another record. It is about finding joy, movement and light in an increasingly complicated world.

“For me, happiness is not a feeling that you chase,” Bridges says. “I want this album to be something that lingers with people and lingers in people’s bones… My role is to be light. I hope that comes across with this album.”

FROM COMING HOME TO THE WORLD

Leon Bridges emerged internationally with his debut album Coming Home, introducing a voice that seemed to carry the elegance and emotional honesty of another era while remaining unmistakably his own.

Rather than remaining fixed in one musical space, Bridges has continued to evolve.

Good Thing broadened his musical palette through funk, jazz, R&B and contemporary production, while 2021’s Gold-Diggers Sound moved into a more atmospheric world of R&B, jazz and alternative influences.

His self-titled 2024 album, Leon, drew further on his Texas roots and personal experiences, while his collaborations across genres — including his celebrated work with Khruangbin — have demonstrated an artist constantly interested in where his music can travel next.

That journey now brings him to South Africa.
